ROCI Commends Stakeholders, Seeks Government, Donour Support To Rebuild Communities Devastated By Udege Attacks

The Restore Our Communities Initiative, Nigeria (ROCI), has commended the Nasarawa State Government, traditional institutions, security agencies, community leaders and other stakeholders for their commitment to the ongoing peacebuilding process in communities affected by the April 1, 2026 attacks in Udege and Agwada Area Administrative Councils of Nasarawa State.

The Initiative also appealed to the Nasarawa State and Federal Governments, development partners, humanitarian organisations and philanthropists to support the reconstruction of communities devastated by the attacks by providing building materials, particularly cement and roofing sheets, for victims whose homes were destroyed.

In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by its National Coordinator, Malam Yahaya Abdulrahman, ROCI said the collective efforts of stakeholders have strengthened the peace dialogue initiated by the organisation and rekindled hope among affected communities.

The Initiative noted that the April 1 attacks claimed scores of lives, displaced hundreds of residents, destroyed homes and other properties, and left many families traumatised.

According to the statement, the progress recorded in the ongoing peace dialogue has continued to inspire confidence among the affected communities, while the willingness of both farming and herding communities to embrace peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and understanding represents a significant milestone in restoring trust and normalcy.

ROCI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the peace process until every displaced family safely returns home, farmers are able to cultivate their lands without fear, children return to school, businesses resume normal activities and all residents can once again live in safety, dignity and peace.

It added that its intervention has entered a new phase focused on reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery, stressing that rebuilding destroyed homes and restoring livelihoods are indispensable components of lasting peace.

The Initiative therefore called on the Nasarawa State Government and the Federal Government, through the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies, to provide building materials to victims to facilitate the reconstruction of their homes and accelerate the return of displaced families.

ROCI equally appealed to corporate organisations, development partners, humanitarian agencies, faith-based organisations and public-spirited individuals to support the reconstruction efforts, noting that such interventions would restore hope to victims and contribute to the recovery of the affected communities.

The organisation further urged religious leaders across all faiths to intensify messages promoting peace, reconciliation, forgiveness and mutual respect, describing clerics as indispensable partners in preventing violence, discouraging hatred and retaliation, promoting dialogue and reinforcing the sanctity of human life.

While reaffirming its neutrality and commitment to peaceful engagement, ROCI pledged to continue working with all stakeholders until justice, security, trust and hope are fully restored in the affected communities.

The Initiative expressed appreciation to everyone who has supported the peacebuilding process and called for sustained collaboration until all displaced families return home, destroyed communities are rebuilt and lasting peace is fully restored. ROCI's guiding slogan remains: "Restore. Rebuild. Return."
