Fresh Attack In Itta: Woman, Daughter Injured As Residents Raise Alarm In Udege

Tension is rising in parts of Nasarawa State following fresh attacks reportedly carried out by suspected Fulani herders in Itta community, within Udege Development Area.

According to local sources, a woman and her daughter were attacked on their farm on Saturday while tending to their crops. The assailants were said to have stormed the area unexpectedly, leaving both victims with injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Itta.

The latest incident comes barely two days after another attack on a resident, identified as Jeremiah Adam Odumu, who was reportedly assaulted under similar circumstances. He is presently receiving treatment at the National Hospital Abuja following severe injuries sustained during the attack.

Residents of Udege Development Area have expressed deep concern over what they describe as a resurgence of violence, warning that their lives and livelihoods are once again under serious threat. They recalled recent deadly attacks in the area that reportedly claimed over 80 lives, destroyed more than 150 houses, and led to the loss of farm produce and other valuables.

The community members noted that the incidents are particularly troubling given recent peace efforts by the state government, which they say they have embraced in good faith. Many had only recently returned to their ancestral homes and farmlands after spending time in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps as a result of previous violence.

“Our major source of livelihood is farming. We returned to our farms believing that peace had been restored, but these fresh attacks are frightening,” a resident lamented.

The development has drawn widespread condemnation from locals, who are calling on the Government, Security Agencies and the Osu Ajiri to act swiftly to prevent further loss of lives and property. They warned that continued inaction could deepen fears that their safety and welfare are not being prioritized.
