Tension Rises In Udege-Mbeki As Young Man Goes Missing Near Mining Site

There is growing tension in Udege-Mbeki community of Nasarawa State following the mysterious disappearance of a young man, Abdulmalik Adamu Beki, who has been missing for two days.

Abdulmalik was reportedly last seen at a mining site in Udege, within close proximity to the permanent site of Kenyang Mining Company. According to friends who were with him on the night of the incident, the group had gathered around midnight on Sunday when an unidentified source beamed a touchlight in their direction.

Curious to ascertain the source of the light, Abdulmalik reportedly followed it to find out what was happening but never returned. Efforts to reach him through his mobile phone have since proved abortive, as his lines have remained unreachable — a development that has heightened fears about his safety.

An eyewitness who spoke to Ideal Reporters on condition of anonymity disclosed that one of the Mobile Police (MOPOL) officers allegedly confided in some community members that the mining company might be aware of Abdulmalik’s whereabouts. The claim, though unverified, has fueled suspicion among residents.

Youths in the community have begun demanding his immediate release, insisting that those responsible must produce him without delay. Sources within the area also revealed that plans are underway for a protest should there be no swift clarification or intervention.

The situation is further complicated by a history of disagreements between the mining company and the host community — disputes that residents say have previously created security concerns. Community leaders are now calling on relevant authorities to urgently intervene, investigate the matter thoroughly, and prevent further escalation of tensions.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the mining company nor security authorities have issued an official statement regarding the disappearance.
