Situation Report from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria as at today 8th December, 2024 On my way back from church today, as part of my tradition, I branched at the market very close to my house to purchase some condiments to spice up one of my favourite delicacies which is also another way to make my Sunday memorable and enjoyable.  Much to my chagrin, I was greeted with a very abysmal, but baffling puzzle of being asked to pay the sum of One Thousand Naira (#1,000) only for the purchase of one bulb of onion pictured below.  I felt highly wounded, not because I don't have the money to pay or that I can't pay, but because so many Nigerians can't afford to pay. That makes me feel my generation is short-changed. Imagining a land that flows with milk and honey being starved to death! What a pity ?. This is also another clear indication that Nigeria is indeed a conspicuous cruise among nations of the world. This reminds me of the Newspaper that circulated in the 9...

AT THIS POINT, SILENCE IS NO LONGER GOLDEN More than ever before, Nigeria needs peace to outgrow her economic challenges. The dwindling state of the economy, which has manifested in the form of increased poverty, high illiteracy level, ill health, among other disturbing features, is scary and should receive immediate attention, lest it further degenerate, probably bring the country to her knees.  To address any problem, having identified it, there is the need for reassessment. The painful reality at present, no doubt, is a product of arrays of factors ranging from lack of vision, pervasive corruption, insecurity etc.  Let's give insecurity a closer look. In recognition of the ultimate role of peace, it is generally accepted that development of any kind is built on its foundation, nothing else. Fa t remain, nothing thrives where violence reigns. The fundamental function of every government, the world over, is to ensure security of lives and property, while seeing to...

Notorious, Overprotected Sexual Predator at Ekiti University By Farooq A. Kperogi A lecturer at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) by the name of Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia is in the eye of the storm of an outrageous sexual harassment scandal not just because of the damning consistency of his preying on female students like a ravening, sex-starved wolf but also because the institution’s vice chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, appears intent to shelter him and grant him free rein to continue to terrorize more vulnerable female students. Agbegbedia, a lecturer in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, has spent years using his position not to educate but to extort, not to mentor students but to disturb the peace of, and inspire conflict in, female students under his tutelage.  His name has become a byword for abuse, entitlement, and unchecked power at FUOYE. He uses his position to raven female students by dangling their academic futures as leverage. With rema...
