Kaduna Govt Extends Education, Healthcare And Livelihood Support To Former Bandits In New Peace Drive

In a renewed effort to consolidate peace and security across Kaduna State, the state government has unveiled an initiative aimed at rehabilitating former bandits who have willingly surrendered and embraced peace.

Contrary to sensational media reports suggesting that government is “offering education and healthcare to bandits,” the initiative, according to official clarification, targets reformed and repentant individuals who have renounced violence and laid down their arms.

The peace programme, anchored on disarmament, rehabilitation and reintegration, seeks to provide education, healthcare, and livelihood support to those genuinely committed to rebuilding their lives within the law. Officials say the approach is part of a broader strategy to end years of insecurity, banditry, and communal unrest through inclusive development and non-cash incentives.

Government representatives explained that the model prioritises education for children from affected communities, vocational training for willing youths, and access to basic healthcare in rural settlements — all within the framework of sustainable peace and community development.

“This initiative is not about rewarding crime,” a senior government official clarified. “It is about preventing relapse into criminality by addressing the root causes of violence — illiteracy, poverty, and lack of opportunity.”

Observers say the Kaduna model reflects a shift from purely military confrontation to a blend of security enforcement and social reintegration, ensuring that peace is not only declared but also sustained.

The government maintains that only individuals who voluntarily disarm and demonstrate genuine repentance will benefit from the programme, as efforts continue to restore lasting peace and stability across the state.
