FARMER/HERDERS CRISIS CLAIMS LIVES AND PROPERTY IN NASARAWA 

No fewer than thirty lives have been reported dead since the crisis involving farmers of Gbagyi ethnic group residing in Farin Dutse, and herders who were their long time neighbours. 

The unfortunate event which occured on Monday, 9th March 2025 was linked to the killing of one Friday Danladi Jike, a farmer and Farin Dutse resident by Sani Allah Gaba, a herder. 

Ideal Reporters gathered that Sani trespassed into a mango plantation belonging to the community with his cows, a development that resulted in the killing of Friday who insisted that Sani leaves the farm. 

Reacting to the unfortunate development, angry youths set Sani's Ruga settlement on fire, killing one Azumi Allah Gaba and her unborn child. This again gave rise to counter attack, leaving scores of lives dead and properties destroyed. 

In an effort to restore peace, the Police convened a meeting with stakeholders of the waring communities, eventually making two arrests in connection with the burning of the Ruga settlement. 

On Wednesday, 11th March, 2025 sporadic gunshots were reported around Angwan Kifi, few meters away from Nasarawa. This followed residents of Farin Dutse fleeing for safety to neighboring communities, including Angwan Kifi, Sabon Nasarawa, Zanga, Gafaki and Al'iman extension. 

Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, SP Rahman Nansel, Anipr confirmed deployment of personnel in the affected areas, reiterating the Command's commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents. " We urge members of the public to remain calm; as efforts are ongoing to arrest all perpetrators of the unfortunate incident.

Residents of Nasarawa, the Nasarawa local government headquarters have expressed fear over the possibility of the crisis escalating, in view of the morning gunshots believed to be an attempt to get to fleeing victims who have found safety in Nasarawa. They therefore, call for prompt intervention.
