NATIONWIDE STRIKE, NIGERIANS REACT Since declaration of a nationwide strike by Nigeria Labour Congress on Friday, following Federal Government inability to meet up to its demand for increased minimum wage, Nigerians have been reacting. This reaction has further heightened with recent development where Labour shuts down national grid, while flights were cancelled by Airports Authority in compliance with Labour's directive, leaving travellers stranded.  Earlier, Labour demanded for N494,000 minimum wage in view of alarming hike in prices of commodities and services, increased cost of living for Nigerian workers as a result of government policies leading to floating of the Naira and removal of subsidy, followed by corresponding rise in prices of petroleum products, electricity tariff, tuition fees for students etc.  Labour insists that increase in living wage has become necessary considering hardship faced by citizens. NATIONWIDE STRIKE   Following commitment by Labour Unions to enforce strict compliance of nationwide strike, NLC has shut down the national grid, resulting total blackout in the country. This development has raised mixed reactions, with a section of citizens decrying resultant effects of such move, noting that it would further plunge the country into severe hardship while others support the move, believing that would come government to respond to the yearnings of the Union.  Ndidi Mbah, GM Public Affairs has issued statement, which was made available to the Press this morning on the matter. The statement reads in full: "GRID SHUT DOWN : UNION DELIBERATELY SHUT DOWN THE NATIONAL GRID. The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby informs the general public that the Labour Union has shut down the national grid, resulting in black out  nationwide.
