ROCI Intensifies Peace Campaign, Urges Osu Ajiri to Convene Stakeholders' Peace Meeting

The Restore Our Communities Initiative (ROCI), Nigeria, has intensified its peace campaign in communities affected by the April 2026 attacks in Udege and Agwada Area Administrative Councils of Nasarawa State, calling for urgent steps to restore peace, strengthen security and facilitate the safe, voluntary and dignified return of displaced persons.

As part of the campaign, the Initiative engaged residents of Akyawa-Baka and Sabon Gida (Gidan Ogiri), representatives of the Nasarawa Local Government Legislative Council, the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Udege Area Administrative Council and officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Maraba-Udege Divisional Headquarters.

Speaking during the engagements, the National Coordinator of ROCI, Mal. Yahaya Abdulrahman, said the Initiative remains committed to promoting dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence among all communities. He urged displaced residents to remain law-abiding and continue supporting ongoing peace efforts, while encouraging farming and herding communities to work closely with security agencies to prevent further violence.

Community leaders commended the Initiative's intervention and appealed for increased security presence and government support to rebuild about 150 houses destroyed during the attacks, enabling displaced families to return home and resume farming, education, business and other socio-economic activities.

At the meeting with Miyetti Allah leaders, participants reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and proposed a broader reconciliation meeting involving the State leadership of the association and the Palace of the Osu Ajiri of Edegye Chiefdom to consolidate peace, address security concerns and prevent future conflicts.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maraba-Udege Division, CSP Babagana commended the peace initiative and recommended the establishment of a Police Outpost along the Akyawa-Baka–Gidan Ogiri corridor to improve security, enhance rapid response to emergencies and inspire confidence among displaced residents preparing to return to their communities.

He also expressed optimism that the growing understanding and commitment demonstrated by both farming and herding communities would further strengthen security efforts in the area.

Following the recommendations arising from the engagement, ROCI called on the Osu Ajiri of Edegye Chiefdom to expedite arrangements for the proposed stakeholders' peace meeting involving the Palace and the State leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, describing it as a vital step towards rebuilding trust among communities, strengthening collaboration with stakeholders and accelerating the restoration of lasting peace across the affected areas.

The Initiative reaffirmed its commitment to working with traditional institutions, security agencies, government authorities and community leaders until lasting peace is restored, destroyed communities are rebuilt and every displaced family returns home safely and with dignity.
