Udege Education Authority Clarifies Circumstances Surrounding Queries Issued To Four Staff
The Office of the Education Secretary, Udege Area Administrative Council Education Authority, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the issuance of queries to four members of staff, dismissing as false and misleading claims circulating on social media that the action was politically motivated.
In a statement made available to journalists, the Education Authority explained that the disciplinary action was taken strictly in accordance with the Nasarawa State Public Service Rules and other extant civil service regulations governing the conduct of public officers, stressing that the decision was purely administrative and intended to uphold discipline and accountability within the education system.
The Authority identified the affected staff as Okah Yahaya Osayi, Anukpo Ogba Joseph, Odumu Magaji David and Abdullahi Usman.
According to the statement, the four officers were issued queries over their involvement in the unauthorized use of Pilot Science Central Primary School, Odeni-Gida, for purely partisan political activities without the approval or knowledge of the Education Secretary.
The Authority further stated that property belonging to the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), including school furniture and pupils, was unlawfully used during the political programme.
It noted that pupils were kept within the school premises well beyond official closing hours and were not dismissed until after 5:00 p.m., contrary to established school procedures. The Education Authority described the development as unacceptable, stating that the pupils remained under the sun for several hours without adequate care while the political activity was ongoing.
According to the statement, the school premises and government-owned furniture were also hired out for the political programme without official authorization, adding that the arrangement was reportedly made for the sum of ₦200,000.
The Education Authority emphasized that public schools are established solely for teaching and learning and should not be converted into venues for partisan political activities or other unauthorized engagements.
It further stressed that public officers have a responsibility to safeguard government property and protect the welfare of pupils entrusted to their care, noting that any conduct capable of disrupting academic activities, compromising pupils' welfare or misusing public resources is subject to disciplinary measures as provided under the Public Service Rules.
The Authority explained that the issuance of a query is a standard administrative procedure designed to give an officer the opportunity to respond to allegations before any determination is made. It therefore urged members of the public to disregard narratives suggesting that the action was politically motivated.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, discipline and accountability, the Office of the Education Secretary assured parents, stakeholders and the general public that it would continue to uphold established standards and ensure that public schools under its supervision are used strictly for their intended educational purposes.
