Pantami Withdraws From APC Governorship Primaries Over Alleged Electoral Violations

Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has withdrawn from the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State, citing alleged violations of the Electoral Act 2026 and irregularities in the party’s direct primary process.

The withdrawal was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by Barrister Ibrahim M. Attahir on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement.

According to the statement, Pantami said his decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and concerns over what he described as the APC’s failure to provide essential information and a transparent framework necessary for conducting credible governorship primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.

The former minister stated that despite fully complying with the party’s guidelines and procedures after accepting calls by supporters and stakeholders to contest the governorship seat, his campaign repeatedly faced difficulties accessing critical information regarding the primary election process.

He alleged that several letters written by his solicitors to relevant organs of the party, seeking clarification on issues surrounding the direct primaries, were neither acknowledged nor responded to.

Pantami also pointed to alleged irregularities during the APC National Assembly direct primaries conducted in the state on May 16 and 18, claiming that grassroots party members, especially women and youths, were sidelined during the exercise.

According to him, many aspirants were not provided with details relating to voting venues, accreditation procedures for agents and observers, as well as collation centres, yet results were eventually announced. He maintained that non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 and party guidelines undermines the legitimacy and credibility of the process.

The statement further noted that Pantami was the only governorship aspirant in the APC to send a representative to the Peace Accord meeting organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Gombe State Command on May 14, where his representative reportedly signed the accord.

Pantami expressed appreciation to his supporters, particularly youths and women who contributed through crowdfunding to purchase his nomination and expression of interest forms. The contributions, according to the statement, ranged from ₦5,000 to ₦4 million.

He also thanked coordinators, elders, media aides and members of his Campaign Coordinating Committee for their support throughout the process.

While urging supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, Pantami said the Pantamiyya Movement would soon communicate its next political steps and future direction to supporters across Gombe State and Nigeria.
He reiterated the movement’s commitment to promoting good governance and pursuing justice through lawful and democratic means.
