ADC Convention To Hold As Scheduled Amid Allegations Of Intimidation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has insisted that its national convention will proceed as planned on Tuesday in Abuja, despite alleged last-minute attempts to disrupt the event.

Speaking at the venue, the Rainbow Event Centre, former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, declared that the party remained resolute and fully prepared to hold its convention. He emphasized that the ADC had fulfilled all contractual obligations, including full payment for the venue, and therefore could not be denied access.

Melaye alleged that there had been pressure from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, alongside the Federal Capital Development Authority, aimed at preventing the event from taking place. He described the development as an act of political intimidation but assured party members that the convention would go on as scheduled.

The controversy follows a statement issued on Monday night by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who alleged that the management of the venue was threatened with possible revocation of its licence should it host the opposition party.

According to Abdullahi, the alleged threats were part of broader efforts to stifle opposition activities. However, party leaders maintain that such actions will not deter them from carrying out their democratic processes.

Reaffirming the party’s stance, Melaye stated that the ADC would resist what he termed “creeping tyranny” and remain committed to upholding democratic principles.

As of press time, there has been no official response from the office of the FCT Minister or the FCDA regarding the allegations.
