Suspected Arson Attack Razes Homes In Sabon Gida Community, Nasarawa

Several houses have been reportedly set ablaze in Sabon Gida, also known as Gidan Ogiri, in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, leaving residents counting losses in what is suspected to be a reprisal attack.

According to local sources, the perpetrators were not apprehended at the time of the incident. However, residents have alleged that the attack may have been carried out by a group of Fulani individuals who were reportedly seen moving around neighboring communities in recent days under suspicious circumstances.

The incident is believed to be connected to events of March 19, when two Fulani men suspected to be involved in kidnapping were allegedly killed by some youths from the Sabon Gida community. The killing reportedly followed the abduction of some residents, which had sparked outrage and resistance among community members.

Residents say they had earlier raised alarm over unusual movements of unidentified individuals, many reportedly armed, especially during nighttime. They lamented what they described as a lack of prompt response from relevant authorities despite repeated reports.

As a result of the attack, several houses, farm produce, and valuable properties were destroyed by fire. However, as of the time of filing this report, no loss of life has been officially confirmed.

The incident has heightened tension in the area, with residents calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to prevent further escalation and ensure the protection of lives and property.
