Gunmen Attack Zamfara Governor’s Chief Of Staff, Escape Unhurt
The Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Governor, Mouktar Mohammed Lugga, on Thursday narrowly escaped death after gunmen suspected to be bandits opened fire on his vehicle along the Funtua–Gusau highway.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 6:16 p.m. near Kucheri village while Lugga was returning to Gusau from an official engagement. He was said to be travelling with his driver and two other occupants at the time of the attack.
According to security sources, armed assailants emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the moving vehicle. One of the bullets reportedly pierced through the windshield, narrowly missing the driver.
Sources further disclosed that one of the attackers attempted to fire at close range, but the weapon failed to discharge, allowing the vehicle to speed off from the scene.
All occupants of the vehicle were said to have escaped unhurt.
The Kucheri axis of the highway has in recent months witnessed a series of attacks by suspected bandits, heightening security concerns among commuters and residents in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Zamfara State Government or security agencies regarding the incident. However, sources indicate that investigations are ongoing.
