2027 Politics: Keffi Council Chairman Sacks Secretary As Gov. Sule Removes Political Adviser Over Early Alignments

Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections are beginning to reshape the political landscape in Nasarawa State, with two high-profile dismissals underscoring the ruling administration’s position against premature political alignments by public office holders.

In Keffi Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Idris Ahmed Damagani, has terminated the appointment of the Council Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Bala, popularly known as Moscolo, following controversies surrounding his alleged political utterances.

The termination was communicated in a letter signed by the council’s DPM, Usman Zubairu Egya. According to the letter, the former secretary was queried over comments allegedly made on social media on January 11, 2026, but failed to respond within the stipulated timeframe.

The council described the comments as unethical and capable of undermining peace, unity, and internal cohesion within Keffi Local Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both local and state levels. The letter further noted that the remarks were considered disrespectful to constituted authority, party elders, and stakeholders.

Dr. Bala, a professional Estate Surveyor and Valuer, is believed to have openly aligned with former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, in the emerging contest for the APC governorship ticket ahead of 2027. His position reportedly runs contrary to the zoning agitation being championed by influential APC stakeholders in Nasarawa West, led by the state’s first civilian governor and former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

In a related development, Governor Abdullahi Sule has also relieved his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Mohammed Baba Shehu, of his appointment.

The Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Dr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN, announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday. According to the statement, Baba Shehu violated a government circular issued in September 2025, which barred political appointees from openly identifying with or supporting any aspiring candidate ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official commencement of political activities.

The statement, dated February 5, 2026, said the disengagement takes immediate effect. Baba Shehu had previously served as Executive Chairman of Keffi Local Government Council before his appointment as Political Adviser to the governor.

The twin dismissals are widely seen as a clear signal by Governor Sule and party leadership that political appointees must maintain neutrality and discipline, in line with existing regulations, as the state gradually moves toward the 2027 elections.

Observers say the developments reflect growing internal realignments within the APC in Nasarawa State, even as party leaders seek to manage ambitions and prevent early divisions ahead of the crucial polls.
