Kano Govt Warns Against Sale Of Meat From Dead Animals, Threatens Sanctions
The Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development has issued a strong public health warning over the illegal processing and sale of meat from animals that died before slaughter, describing the practice as a grave danger to public health.
In a notice released by the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, the ministry disclosed that it has received credible reports indicating that some individuals are engaging in the unlawful handling and distribution of meat from dead animals. According to the department, such meat is unsafe for human consumption and could expose consumers to serious diseases.
The ministry urged residents to remain alert and to exercise caution when purchasing or consuming meat across the state. Members of the public who witness the slaughter, handling, sale, or distribution of meat from animals that were not properly slaughtered are advised to report immediately to the nearest security agency and notify the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology.

The notice was announced by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Halima Sani Gadanya, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Aliyu Isah Aliyu.
