Toto Residents Express Concern Over Soldier-Involved Killing

Residents of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have expressed deep concern over an incident involving a soldier who allegedly shot and killed a man following an argument reportedly linked to the soldier’s relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

Details of the incident were made public by Yusuf Baduku through a post on his official Facebook page, where he disclosed that he was briefed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Nasarawa State on Security, Hon. Ibrahim Adamu Gaga.

According to the account, Hon. Gaga explained that immediately the incident occurred, he notified the appropriate security authorities to prevent escalation. This intervention led to the suspension of a hurried burial arrangement after the victim’s body was taken to Toto, pending the arrival of security personnel.

A first-hand investigation was subsequently conducted at the scene, during which photographs of the body were taken as part of evidence gathering. The deceased was thereafter buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

It was further disclosed that the Army Captain in charge of Toto Local Government Area contacted the victim’s family, who clearly stated their demand for justice for their son.
As of the time of the disclosure, the soldier involved in the incident was said to be in detention and undergoing investigation at a Nigerian Army facility in Abuja.

The people of Toto Local Government have called for calm while urging authorities to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation. They emphasized the need for justice to be served to maintain public confidence and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The Nasarawa State Government, through its security apparatus, has reiterated the importance of allowing due process to take its course, assuring residents that the matter is being handled by the appropriate authorities.
