550 Travelers Intercepted On Numan Bridge, Escorted Out Of Adamawa Over Security Concerns
Security operatives in Adamawa State on Wednesday intercepted two trailers conveying more than 550 passengers at the Numan Bridge, prompting heightened scrutiny and a swift response from authorities.
The trailers, with registration numbers NNY-236-XA (Yobe) and GAS-330-XA (Taraba), were stopped after security personnel observed the unusually large number of travelers packed inside the vehicles. According to officials, nearly half of the occupants were foreign nationals from Chad and Niger Republic, while others hailed from Yobe and Katsina States.
Sources told reporters that the passengers were unable to provide a clear or convincing explanation for their mass movement into Adamawa, raising urgent security questions in a region already grappling with cross-border threats and irregular migration patterns.
A joint security team comprising the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigerian Army immediately intervened. After preliminary checks, the travelers were escorted out of Adamawa State and guided back toward the Adamawa–Gombe boundary, with strict instructions to return to their point of departure pending further clarification.
Authorities say the prompt action was necessary to forestall potential security risks.
The Adamawa State Government and residents have commended the swift response of the security agencies involved, particularly the Police Commissioner, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Immigration Service, for acting decisively to safeguard the state.
