NOSA COMMISSIONS NATIONAL SECRETARIAT IN GRAND CEREMONY

The Nasarawa Old Students Association (NOSA) on Saturday commissioned its National Secretariat amid celebration, reunions and tributes from dignitaries, alumni, community leaders and government representatives.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, the Honourable Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, Hon. Mohammed Sani Otto, commended NOSA for what he described as “a monumental milestone and a testament to unity, vision and collective responsibility.”

Hon. Otto praised the Association for erecting a befitting National Secretariat and for consistently contributing to education, youth development and community upliftment across the State.

He described the new edifice as “more than a building—it is a symbol of shared identity, shared purpose and a shared legacy spanning generations,” noting that the institution has produced leaders, technocrats, scholars and public servants whose influence continues to shape Nasarawa State and Nigeria.

The Emir of Nasarawa, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril—an illustrious alumnus and Grand Patron of NOSA—praised the Association for its unwavering contributions to educational development.

His Royal Highness revealed that 80% of the school’s physical structures were either built or renovated by NOSA, describing the feat as unparalleled. He charged alumni to continue supporting the institution, adding that a strong educational foundation is key to community and national development.

The Federal Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hon. Aliyu Tijjani Ahmed, who spoke on behalf of the awardees, expressed deep appreciation to NOSA for honouring individuals who have distinguished themselves in service.

Tijjani commended NOSA for the excellence it exudes, noting that his Commission remains committed to advancing education as a tool for empowerment.

Inspired by what he witnessed, the Federal Commissioner pledged to mobilize old students of his own alma mater—Government Secondary School Udege-Mbeki—to replicate NOSA’s achievements. He emphasized the need to uplift and improve the condition of schools across the State, stressing that alumni associations remain crucial partners in educational growth.

Guest Speaker, Prof. Maikano Ari, applauded NOSA’s pioneering spirit, revealing that while alumni groups across Nigeria often hold meetings in borrowed or existing facilities, NOSA stands out as the first alumni association he knows to have constructed a National Secretariat entirely from scratch.

Motivated by NOSA’s accomplishment, he pledged to encourage the Keffi Old Boys Association (KOBA)—his own alma mater—to embark on a similar legacy project.

In his address, the Commissioner reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to strengthening education, empowering young people, and creating a conducive environment for investment and development.

He emphasized that partnerships with alumni bodies help build the human capital foundation required for a stronger, more prosperous Nasarawa State.

Part of the day’s programme was the presentation of awards to deserving alumni for their exemplary service, leadership and contributions. The government representative congratulated the awardees, noting that the honours send a clear message that excellence and service are celebrated and valued.

Addressing the students present, the government representative urged them to draw inspiration from the achievements of NOSA members, emphasizing discipline, hard work and integrity as key ingredients for success.

The event concluded with prayers and goodwill messages, with stakeholders expressing hope that the new National Secretariat would serve as a hub for innovation, mentorship, community projects and continued alumni collaboration.

With this milestone, NOSA has once again demonstrated the power of unity, vision and dedication—setting a model for other institutions across Nigeria.
