Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki Declares He Will Not Seek Re-election in 2027, Calls It A Sacrifice For Younger Leaders
The Honourable Member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, Rep Abdussamad Dasuki, has announced that he will not seek re-election into the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election, describing the decision as a personal sacrifice to create space for younger Nigerians to take leadership roles.
In a statement personally signed and released on Saturday, Dasuki said the decision followed wide consultations with his team, political leader, family, and conscience. He explained that the move aligns with the ideals of the “Future Is Now Project”, a youth advocacy initiative he helped to establish, which calls for greater youth inclusion in governance.
"After due consultation with my team, our leader, my family, and most importantly my conscience, I have decided not to seek re-election to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election,” he declared. “This decision is not born out of fatigue or disillusionment, but out of a higher calling — one rooted in belief, hope, and a future we all desire to see.”
Dasuki, who has been an active player in public service since 2011, noted that he has had the privilege to serve in the State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and the State Executive Council. During his tenure, he said, he sponsored bills, moved motions, and initiated policies aimed at promoting security, empowerment, and development.
The lawmaker emphasized that his decision stems from the principle of intergenerational justice, one that demands older youth and established leaders to pave the way for the next generation.
“Among many bold resolutions, we committed to ensuring that 70% of House of Representatives seats are occupied by young Nigerians under 40 years of age in the next general election. I have crossed that threshold, and if we are to give meaning to our words, then we must be willing to sacrifice,” he added.
Dasuki reaffirmed his commitment to continue contributing to the development of his constituency, Sokoto State, and Nigeria at large, particularly in education, women and youth empowerment, and policy advocacy.
He also paid tribute to his political mentor and former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, describing him as a leader who believed in him and gave him the opportunity to serve.
Expressing gratitude to his constituents for their trust and support over the years, Dasuki urged the youth to seize the moment and take leadership responsibilities seriously.
“The time is now. No more waiting, no more excuses, no more silence. Take your place, stand tall, and lead with courage, integrity, and vision,” he charged.
He concluded by expressing optimism that his decision would inspire a new political culture in Nigeria — one that recognizes the value of timely transition and mentorship.
“As I step aside, I wish to bequeath a new legacy in Nigeria’s political history — one that showcases a crop of leaders who know when to exit, paving the way for a fresher generation,” he stated.
Rep Abdussamad Dasuki’s announcement has since drawn commendation from observers and political stakeholders who view the decision as a rare act of leadership humility and a symbolic step toward deepening youth participation in governance.
