Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has hailed President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for giving directives for the commencement of work on the 137km Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto-Abaji road.
Governor Sule gave the commendation when he joined the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to inspect the road, alongside the lawmaker representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, in Keffi on Saturday.
The Governor appreciated the President for sending the Minister to inspect two major projects in the area, namely the ongoing rehabilitation of the Keffi overhead bridge after a section of the flyover collapsed, as well as the 137km Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto-Abaji road.
Speaking at the venue of the inspection, Governor Sule expressed appreciation that President Tinubu has finally come to the rescue of commuters plying that road, especially that the stretch of road has become an eyesore.
He further expressed appreciation that the road also leads to the sites of lithium mining and processing facilities, including the 3000 tons per day capacity factory billed for commissioning by the President.
"We commend the President for sending you to come these two major projects ahead of us. First, the repair of this overhead bridge in Keffi, which is vital to Abuja as well. And secondly, more importantly to us, the work that you have come to inspect, the rehabilitation of Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto-Abaji road. We thank you, we thank Mr President for giving you this special directive," he stated.
The Governor was particularly happy that the Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto-Abaji road is part of the special projects under the federal ministry of works, adding that he found it necessary to join the Minister on the inspection visit because of an unfortunate accident that occurred recently involving a pregnant woman.
"One of the reasons why I came, was that a few days ago, because of the nature of the road, we had a very unfortunate accident involving a pregnant woman. That is the reason why I am happy the moment you mentioned that the contractor should begin work on Monday. Contractor I heard that one because I am going to be the number one supervisor," he said.
Governor Sule used the opportunity of the visit to equally show appreciation to the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I, as well as Senator Wadada, for their roles leading to the commencement of work on the road.
"I want to thank Senator Wadada once more for all the efforts. I want to thank the Emir of Lafia also for the efforts that he has put into this. It is a road that we have been talking about since the time of the late President Muhammadu Buhari. It took Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu for us to reach this day. We will continue to thank him," he added.
The Governor also thanked the Minister of Works for all the projects presently being undertaken by his ministry across the length and breadth of the country.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi disclosed that the original contract sum of ₦73 billion covered an initial 43.65 km stretch, but that it has been reviewed and extended to 137 km, to reach Abaji town in the FCT, following the directive of President Tinubu, under a special funding arrangement.
On his part, Senator Wadada, commended the Minister for his dedication, describing him as an “uncommon performer,” whose hands-on approach reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
