Residents Raise Alarm Over Mentally-Ill Man Linked To Fatal Attacks In Zaria
Residents of Zaria and its environs have raised serious concerns over the activities of a mentally-ill man alleged to have been involved in the deaths of at least four people within the past two years.
According to eyewitness accounts, the man, who often roams around Tudun Wada, PZ, Sabon Gari and Kwagila Flyover areas, is notorious for approaching passersby to beg for small amounts of money, usually ₦50. Reports indicate that he becomes aggressive when ignored, sometimes verbally abusing those who refuse to give him money.
Community members allege that the man, who is said to carry a heavy iron object among his belongings, has attacked unsuspecting individuals, leading to multiple fatalities. His sudden violent outbursts have instilled fear among residents and commuters in the affected neighborhoods.
“The danger is real. People are scared because once provoked, he can follow you or even strike without warning,” a resident who pleaded anonymity said.
Concerned citizens are now calling on the authorities, particularly security agencies and health institutions, to urgently intervene by removing the individual from the community for medical care and to ensure public safety.
They stress that while the man requires professional psychiatric attention, his continued presence in public spaces poses a grave risk to lives and property.
