NUPENG Blocks Dangote Refinery Gate Amid Collapsed Agreement

Tension flared on Saturday as members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) mobilised truck drivers to block the main gate of Dangote Refinery following the collapse of an undisclosed agreement between both parties.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that long queues of trucks were deliberately parked at the refinery entrance in what has been described as an unlawful and desperate move. Neither Dangote Group nor its drivers are registered members of NUPENG, a fact that has left many citizens questioning the legality of the blockade.

In response, Dangote reportedly began mobilising towing vehicles to clear the obstruction in order to allow operations to continue. NUPENG, however, has vowed to deploy more trucks, escalating tensions around the facility.

Citizens have expressed dissatisfaction over the development, lamenting that such union tactics not only disrupt legitimate business activities but also risk undermining national economic stability. Observers are particularly concerned about the silence of government authorities in the face of what they describe as harassment of a private enterprise.

While the refinery faces obstruction, Dangote Industries has continued to stress its focus on productivity, making fuel available to the market at relatively lower prices compared to importers. Many see this as proof of the company’s business-friendly posture, contrasting sharply with NUPENG’s disruptive actions.

For now, Nigerians watch with concern as the standoff unfolds, hoping government intervention will restore order and protect citizens’ interest.
