Police Biscuit Purchase Sparks Questions Over Spending Transparency

A fresh controversy has emerged over the spending patterns of the Nigeria Police Force following documents circulating online that show the agency spent ₦22.2 million on the purchase of 85 cartons of milk biscuits.

The procurement, which averages ₦261,000 per carton, was brought to public attention by social critic Bello Galadanci, popularly known as Dan Bello, on his social media handles. Dan Bello, who has become known for exposing questionable financial transactions within government agencies, described the deal as another pointer to “reckless use of public resources.”

“So it’s not only pensioners’ funds being looted. Even biscuits have now become gold-plated in Nigeria,” Dan Bello remarked while sharing the revelation.

The disclosure has ignited debate among Nigerians, many of whom are questioning how such a basic item could attract such an inflated cost under official procurement. Civil society actors and online commentators argue that this points to possible mismanagement and highlights the urgent need for greater scrutiny of government spending.

Dan Bello has maintained that transparency and accountability remain central to good governance, insisting that public officials must be held responsible for every kobo of taxpayers’ money.

As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued a response to the allegation. Calls are mounting for anti-graft agencies to investigate the matter to determine whether due process was followed and if public funds were misapplied.
