Emir Of Zuru, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Sani Sami, Passes On At 81

Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State have been thrown into mourning following the death of His Royal Highness, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Muhammad Sani Sami II, CON, MNI, LLD, FICENT, the Emir of Zuru. He died at the age of 81 in a London hospital.

The sad news was confirmed on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, who said Governor Nasir Idris received the news with profound shock.

The late Emir was a distinguished soldier, administrator, and monarch. A former Military Governor of Bauchi State between 1984 and 1985 under the Muhammadu Buhari regime, Maj. Gen. Sami also had an illustrious military career that earned him respect across Nigeria. Beyond his service in uniform, he was a custodian of culture and a bridge-builder who championed peace, unity, and development throughout his reign.

Governor Idris described him as “a father figure and elder statesman, full of wisdom and always deeply committed to the welfare of his people.”

Maj. Gen. Sami is survived by four wives and seven children. The Kebbi State Government, in its condolence message, expressed deep sorrow, noting that his contributions to nation-building, the stability of Zuru Emirate, and the growth of Kebbi State will remain indelible.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement added.
