Communities Appeal To Royal Fathers Over “Death Trap” Keffi–Nasarawa Road

Keffi, Nasarawa State – A heartfelt plea has been issued to three prominent royal fathers in Nasarawa State, urging them to intervene in the deteriorating state of the Keffi–Nasarawa road, described by locals as a daily “death trap.”

In an open appeal titled “A Humble Appeal to Our Royal Fathers: Your People Are Suffering, Your Influence is Needed”, Amb. Abubakar Salisu Oloko, speaking on behalf of concerned citizens, addressed His Royal Highness Alh. Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, the Emir of Keffi; His Royal Highness Alh. Ibrahim Usman Jibril, the Emir of Nasarawa; and His Royal Highness Alh. Muhammad Usman Abdullahi, the Emir of Toto.

The appeal paints a grim picture of the road’s condition, stressing that it is no longer a mere inconvenience but a threat to lives, livelihoods, and community survival. “We witness our loved ones taking grave risks every day, businesses struggling to survive, and communities suffering in silence because of the perilous state of this road,” the letter stated.

According to the petitioners, the Keffi–Nasarawa road is a vital link connecting multiple communities and serving as a lifeline for trade, travel, and daily social interactions. Its current condition, they argue, has worsened accidents, hampered commerce, and left residents in fear.

While acknowledging that the traditional rulers are above partisan politics, the appeal emphasized the immense influence they hold in swaying government decisions. “We believe that a collective appeal from you, our royal fathers, would be a powerful force that no government can ignore,” Oloko wrote, urging the monarchs to press both state and federal authorities for urgent reconstruction and rehabilitation of the road.

The letter concluded with prayers for the monarchs’ long life, wisdom, and continued commitment to the welfare of their subjects, expressing optimism that their intervention would bring lasting solutions to the people’s plight.

For residents of Keffi, Nasarawa, Toto, and adjoining communities, the hope is that their revered traditional rulers will amplify their cries and ensure that authorities prioritize the road’s rehabilitation without further delay.
