U.S. Intelligence Reveals Alleged Obama-Era Plot to Undermine Trump’s 2016 Presidency

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) on Friday released new findings that suggest members of former President Barack Obama’s administration may have orchestrated efforts to discredit Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential victory.

According to ODNI News Release No. 15-25, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard disclosed evidence allegedly proving that key figures within the Obama administration used intelligence resources to target then-President-elect Trump following his defeat of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

The statement describes the activities as a “years-long coup,” alleging that intelligence was politicized to create a narrative around foreign interference and cast doubt on the legitimacy of Trump’s win.

Key points highlighted in the release include:

Prior to the 2016 election, the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) reportedly assessed that Russia was unlikely to attempt to influence the election using cyber operations.

Talking points prepared for former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper after the election emphasized that no foreign adversaries had conducted cyberattacks capable of altering the election results.

A high-level meeting was held on December 9, 2016, involving former senior Obama officials—including Clapper, John Brennan, Susan Rice, and John Kerry—focused on discussing Russia’s role in the election.

Following that meeting, an email from Clapper’s executive assistant directed IC agencies to produce a new intelligence assessment “per the President’s request,” detailing how Russia allegedly interfered in the election. The ODNI was tasked with coordinating the report alongside the CIA, FBI, NSA, and DHS.

The findings are expected to reignite debates over the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation and the use of intelligence during presidential transitions. As of press time, no formal response has been issued by former Obama administration officials.
