Keffi–Nasarawa Road in Ruins: Citizens Call for Urgent Federal Intervention

Concerned Nigerians are calling on the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate the Keffi–Nasarawa Federal Road, a major economic and transportation corridor that has fallen into a state of severe disrepair, causing untold hardship for commuters and stalling key national activities.

In a compelling call to action titled "Reviving the Keffi–Nasarawa Road: A Call for Urgent Attention to a Vital National Corridor," Yahaya Abdulrahman, a concerned citizen and commentator, highlighted the plight of road users who face daily delays, frequent vehicle damage, and growing security threats along the critical route.

The Keffi–Nasarawa Road serves as a vital link between Abuja and the North, as well as the South West and South East regions of the country. It is a key artery for the movement of agricultural produce, goods, workers, and more critically, mineral resources from Nasarawa State — one of Nigeria’s emerging mining hubs.

Despite the contract for its reconstruction being awarded by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and later reviewed by the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, visible progress remains elusive.

"The road isn't just a link between towns; it is a lifeline for economic activity. Farmers, traders, workers, and transporters rely on it daily," Abdulrahman wrote, noting that the deteriorating condition of the road is not only crippling businesses and livelihoods but also hurting Nigeria’s non-oil revenue drive by disrupting the mineral supply chain.

Security has also become a growing concern. Commuters have increasingly reported cases of robberies and kidnappings, as bandits take advantage of traffic congestion and bad spots along the road.

Abdulrahman called on the Federal Government and the Ministry of Works to act swiftly, outlining three key demands:

1. Immediate mobilization of contractors to site with visible and transparent implementation.

2. Deployment of security forces along the route to protect travelers and reduce criminal activity.

3. Active engagement with stakeholders and local communities to ensure the project aligns with their needs.

“Repairing this road is not just an infrastructure issue — it is about protecting lives, boosting trade, and fostering national unity,” he said, urging the government to turn the Keffi–Nasarawa Road into a symbol of responsive leadership.

As economic and security challenges mount across the country, citizens are hoping the government will heed the call, prioritize the road’s rehabilitation, and restore confidence in governance by matching words with action.
