GOVERNORS ARE MAKING ATTEMPT AIMED AT SHORTCHANGING BENEFICIARIES OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PALLIATIVES - HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS MINISTER ALLEGES
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has alleged that state governors are currently trying to replace the names of beneficiaries the federal government intends to provide palliative funds to, in order to ease the hardship faced by citizens.
The minister stated that the governors are working to manipulate the selection process by including individuals for political reasons.
Yilwatda explained that the distribution of these palliatives is being carried out in collaboration with the World Bank and some civil society organizations to ensure transparency in the process. He emphasized that there would be no compromise in ensuring the funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
He added that the National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) would be used to verify and identify the beneficiaries of the program.
Nigerian governors have of late been subject of discussion following claims that they are part of problems facing the downtrodden, instead of the solution. It is widely believed that they are still making tireless efforts to frustrate local government autonomy which series to liberate the third tier of government.
