NASARAWA STATE SHUTS DOWN MINING FIRM OVER REGULATORY VIOLATIONS
The Nasarawa State Government has sealed the operations of Timadix Geomin Consult Nigeria Limited, a lithium mining company operating in Kokona Local Government Area, citing alleged violations of mining regulations.
The decisive move highlights the state’s commitment to enforcing strict compliance and protecting its rich mineral resources from illegal activities.
During a Press briefing in Lafia, Acting Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe disclosed that a Committee investigating Timadix’s operations uncovered significant irregularities, including improperly obtained consent letters with forged signatures from traditional rulers.
“Our decision to shut down Timadix aligns with our efforts to eradicate illegal mining in Nasarawa State. We are committed to ensuring that investors comply with legal requirements to protect our communities and resources,” Dr. Akabe stated.
While reaffirming the state’s openness to investors, Dr. Akabe emphasized the importance of following due process to avoid disputes. The government also assured residents of strengthened monitoring of mining activities to safeguard the environment and local communities.
The Managing Director of Timadix, Tim Eldon, responded by claiming the company had obtained necessary licenses and called on the Federal Government for intervention. Despite these claims, the Nasarawa State Government remains resolute in its stance to prioritize the welfare and development of the state’s resources for the benefit of its people.
