Situation Report from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria as at today 8th December, 2024
On my way back from church today, as part of my tradition, I branched at the market very close to my house to purchase some condiments to spice up one of my favourite delicacies which is also another way to make my Sunday memorable and enjoyable.
Much to my chagrin, I was greeted with a very abysmal, but baffling puzzle of being asked to pay the sum of One Thousand Naira (#1,000) only for the purchase of one bulb of onion pictured below.
I felt highly wounded, not because I don't have the money to pay or that I can't pay, but because so many Nigerians can't afford to pay. That makes me feel my generation is short-changed. Imagining a land that flows with milk and honey being starved to death!
What a pity ?. This is also another clear indication that Nigeria is indeed a conspicuous cruise among nations of the world.
This reminds me of the Newspaper that circulated in the 90's with the name June 12. There was a caption on the Newspaper that reads, "Nigeria Is Finished." Then, looking at the cost of living, it's perceived that Nigeria was still remaining, little did one know that the Newspaper, "June 12" was a prophecy into the future of Nigeria. Indeed as we can see today, Nigeria is finished !
Sunny Okosun, one of the greatest musicians of his time was right after all, when he sang the track, "Which Way Nigeria?" This has always been a great question begging for answers over the years. "Which Way Nigeria ?".
Whenever I look around to see the level of suffering among Nigerians, I remember Rastaman Maxwell Udo who sang the lyrics, "I Cry For The Masses." With the awful sight of being asked to pay the sum of One Thousand Naira (#1,000) only for a small bulb of onions, "I too Cry For The Masses."
May God help Nigeria and remove Shylocks and Rulers and Give us Leaders. May God heal the land of Nigeria, and remove politicians from our land, and give us technocrats and statesmen, for we're tired of men who think of next election, we clamour for men who think of next generation !!!
