FEDERAL HIGH COURT STRIKES OUT TREASON CHARGES AGAINST #EndBadGovernanceProtesters
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has on Tuesday struk out treason charges against #EndBadGivernanceProtesters
This was pronounced by Obiora Egwuatu, the presiding judge in the case, involving minors and other Nigerians charged with treason, following an application by M.D Abubakar, Counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
Abubakar had applied to take over and discontinue the suit. At the session, Abubakar prayed the Court allow the AGF take over the charge.
Since their arrest in August, the minors were taken to Kuje Prison but were rejected. They were however, detained by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in a facility meant for adults at the Intelligence Response Team Unit in the Apo area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The kids who were granted bail on stringent terms by Justice Obiora Egwuatu were 24. Still, about 20 of them had been hospitalised at an undisclosed hospital, Ideal Reporters gathered.
Earlier on, President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of the underage children arraigned before the Federal High Court on Friday, November 1, following national and international outrage and condemnation, given their young age and poor handling, hence their malnourishment..
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the development to State House correspondents during an emergency briefing at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
The Vice President, Kashim Shettima is expected to preside over an elaborate ceremony in which the minors would be handed over to their Governors in the North.
