ZAMFARA BASED ACTIVIST CALLS FOR REINSTATEMENT OF SUSPENDED MEMBERS, ZAMFARA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

A renown activist, Yusuf Muazu Yakubu has demanded justice for eight lawmakers earlier suspended by the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

Yakubu noted in a statement on Sunday that he wrote on behalf of the people of Zamfara State, to call for the reinstatement of lawmakers suspended in February 2024 on the ground of alleged involvement in attempt to cause misunderstanding in the House by holding illegal plenary.

The suspended members; Honourables Bashiru Gummi representing Gummi One; Bashiru Bello Sarkin Zango, Bungudu West; Shamsudeen Hassan Basko, Mafara North; Faruku Musa Dosara, Mafara South; Amiru Keta, Tsafe West; Ibrahim Tukur, Bakura; Bashiru Masama, Bukkuyum North and Nasiru Abdullahi, Maru North were said to have been suspended indefinitely without concrete reasons, and that their only ‘offence’ was attempting to exercise their constitutional right to nominate a pro tempore Acting Speaker in the absence of the Speaker and his Deputy, Ideal Reporters gathered.

Advocating for their immediate reinstatement, Yakubu said, "These members were suspended indefinitely without concrete reasons. Their only ‘offence’ was attempting to exercise their constitutional right to nominate a pro tempore Acting Speaker in the absence of the Speaker and his deputy.

“They sought to address the emergency issue of insecurity in Zamfara State, which has resulted in the loss of lives and property in their constituents.

"Instead of being commended for their swift action to rescue the lives of their people, the House suspended them and levelled allegations of criminal activity against them.”

“We believe this is a gross injustice and an attempt to silence their voices," he added.
