GOV. ALEX OTTI SACKS CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY

The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has sacked his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko.

This development was disclosed to journalists by the Hon. Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the Governor on Wednesday.

Following the development, Kalu Ukoha Kalu will assume the role of Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

While reasons for his sack were not revealed, sources said the ex-spokesman was fond of turning down enquires from journalists, hence his sack. Others said his Principal and top government functionaries were not pleased with his noncombative reactions against those opposing the Governor.

Governor Otti earlier ordered for the immediate suspension Commissioner of Health, Mrs Ngozi Okoronkwo on alleged misconduct. In a related development, all Permanent Secretaries in the State's Civil Service, as well as the Head of Service were suspended.

The move came on the heels of the inauguration of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry, tasked with recovering State Government properties and funds. A Press Release issued by Kazie Uko, the then-Governor's Chief Press Secretary, revealed that Lady Joy Maduka, Director of the Ministry of Education, had been appointed as the Ag. Head of Service (HOS), with immediate effective.

Uko also instructed that all Permanent Secretaries, excluding John Pedro Iroakazi, the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, and the Solicitor General, Mrs. U.G. Uche Ikonne, were required to transfer their responsibilities to the highest-ranking Director within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, effective immediately.
