MASS PROTEST IN ISRAEL, AS ISRAELIS CALL FOR CEASEFIRE IN GAZA AND THE RETURN OF THEIR CAPTIVES

About six months since the declaration of war with Palestine by Israeli authority, Israelis in their thousands have taken to the street, protesting against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's led government.

The protesters who are obviously dissatisfied with breakdown of peace for so long, which has led to their families and loved ones been held captive by Hamas are calling for a ceasefire, something Netanyahu is not willing to do.

Given his defeating silence, they are now calling for his resignation and for the conduct of fresh election. Haggai Levin, a protester, noted that the government must fulfil its duty to bring back the captives. “If they are unable to do so, maybe someone else can do that,” he said.

Ideal Reporters gathered that relatives of abducted Israelis are insisting on the return of their families. “I want my father-in-law home now,” Ayala Metzger, who had joined the protests in Jerusalem insisted. “Just bring them back.” Various attempts by the Police to suppress the protest, including use of water cannon and physical pushing of protesters.

The ongoing war, which has attracted global concern has seen to the brutal killing of over 32000 Palestinians, including children and women, not sparing hospitals, orphanage homes, schools, mosques and churches, with many others held captive by Israeli Defense Forces. Equally worrisome is the frontal abuse of Universal Chatter for Peace and continuous killings of United Nations Aid Workers.

Several calls for ceasefire were made on Israel by international community, including United Nations. Sometimes last week, the United Nations Security Council had voted in favour of ceasefire resolution. South African government has since taken up the matter at International Criminal Court for (ICC).

It is however feared that Netanyahu may not pay heed to calls for ceasefire, moreso that he has the support of President Joe Biden who only recently approved the sale of weapons to them, with which to further the war. What is clear, however, is that Israel is loss international appeal, having orchestrated what is believed to be one of the worst act of inhumanity.
