LAND DISPUTE IN MARARABA-UDEDEGE CLAIMED ONE LIFE, LEFT OTHERS INJURED AS RESIDENTS FLEE FOR SAFETY 

A disturbing situation surrounding land dispute in Mararaban-Udege, Udege Development Area Headquarter ensued in the early hours of today. The sad event claimed one life and left many others injured as the rest flee to neighbouring communities for safety. 

Mararaban-Udege is the Administrative Headquarter of Udege Development Area and the center of commercial activities in Afo/Eloyi communities. It therefore, serve great deal of Administrative economic purposes, linking Nasarawa State to the Southeast. The community was highly cosmopolitan, hence its diverse ethnic groups and clans. 

Unfortunately, some 3 years back or so, crisis ensued following leadership tussle in Mararaba Market Association where residents of Ambu communities claimed they were deliberately denied the chance to lead after Eki communities have had their turn. This gradually led the Ambu people to come up with the idea of having their own Market at Gada Hudu - Ideal Reporters gathered. 

Further, a resident of the community revealed that Ambu people residing in Mararaba nurtured the idea of installing their own Chief since they were no longer willing to be answerable to the one in the community, since according to them, the land was originally theirs. It is this claim that has continued to cause fracas between the two clans who were known to have coexisted for decades, with history of intermarriages between them.  

That one Ahmadu Sama'ila Ekpeji loss his life to this avoidable but disheartening crisis is disturbing. Nasarawa Local Government Council Administration has since wade into the matter. The Council Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Sani Otto has declared curfew between the hours of 6:00pm - 7:00am. He has also stated that the situation is under control, has called on citizens to maintain calm and cooperative with security operatives to ensure normalcy fully returns.
