AFO YOUTH YOUTH MOBILITY WRITE NASARAWA STATE GOVERNOR, ENGR. ABDULLAHI A. SULE, CALL FOR REVITALIZATION OF THE AGRIC SECTOR
Afo Youth Mobility, a sociocultural group comprising of promising young men and women in Afo/Eloyi community of Nasarawa State have called on Nasarawa State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule to support farmers increase yield .
The call was made through open letter signed by the Chairman, Barr. DY Kana. Commending the Governor for distributing food and cash sums (palliative) in a bid to cushion hardship faced by citizens occasioned by biting economic condition, the letter observed " ... as an agrarian society facing the challenges of fluctuating market prices and economic uncertainty, we firmly believe that the long-term solution to our socio-economic woes lies in agricultural revolution and modernization".
Noting that Afo people are predominantly farmers who cultivate the finest yam in the country, among other food and cash crops, are beset by absence of modern farming techniques and equipment, which hampers their productivity.
The group therefore demanded for provision of tractors and fertilizer to farmers at subsidized rate. "Hence, we humbly implore Your Excellency's esteemed office to consider the introduction of mechanized farming by providing tractors and machinery at subsidized rates in Afo Nation and beyond" the letter further contained.
Believing that mechanized farming has the potential to increase food production, create jobs and generate more income for government, a call was made for strengthening security architecture, addressing of age long farmer/herders clashes.
The letter concluded that "sustainable development and prosperity can only be achieved through strategic focus on agricultural advancement and security reinforcement ".
