SHEIKH AMINU IBRAHIM DAURAWA RESIGNS FROM HISBAH

Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, a popular Kano based Islamic cleric and Hisbah Commander has tendered his resignation. This development, Ideal Reporters gathered, is not unconnected to activities of Hisbah where arrests are made on people who allegedly engage in immoral, anti Islamic behaviours, including lodging in hotel rooms, indecent dressing, taking hard drugs, child abuse, among other things.

It is widely believed that Daurawa chose to keep his name and belief, hence his resignation, following statements attributed to Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the  Kano State Governor, in which he expressed dissatisfaction on certain operations of, and arrests by Hisbah recently. Murja Ibrahim Kunya, Northern TikToker and fan to the Governor got arrested by Daurawa's Hisbah after several invitations and counselings, which she failed to honour.

Her activities on Tik Tok, Hisbah believes negates both culture and religion, and is affecting the good moral upbringing of young Northerners and Muslims. She was therefore apprehended and taken to Court for prosecution within the ambit of law.

Gov. Abba Kabir's reaction, especially because Murja, his ardent supporter and fan, is involved, has created mixed feelings and reactions in Kano and far beyond. While some people are of the view that the country is secular and so, everyone should be allowed to do what please them, much as their action is not against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, others felt Hisbah was right to have acted within its jurisdiction, moreso that it had taken her to Court, did not keep her beyond required legal timeframe nor took law into its hand.

Sheikh Abdullahi Gadon Kaya, in a video clip acknowledged Daurawa's contributions to Kano State Government and its people, noting that Daurawa is not unaware of the position of the law, that he has always consulted lawyers before taking any action. He called on Government to prevail on Daurawa to reconsider his resignation for the benefit of the people of Kano.

Sheikh Daurawa earlier maintainaned that had Murja's actions on TikTok no effect on others, Hisbah would have closed its eyes on her. Now, a section of the population are saying Murja has become untouchable, something she is said to have been pouting at in some of her skits. Whether this is true or not, time shall tell. One thing is however certain. Kanawa, by extension, Northern Nigerians will set their eyes on Daurawa's successor, Murna and Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
