TRADITIONAL LEADERS FROM NORTHERN NIGERIA EXPRESS CONCERN OVER STATE OF THE NATION
Monarchs from the North jointly express concern over rising insecurity, hunger and unemployment in the country, particularly in their region. The monarchs, headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Sa'ad Abubakar lll stated this at Arewa House in Kaduna at the 6th Executive Northern Traditional Council Committee meeting, noting that people are becoming difficult to keep from revolting.
Insecurity has eating deep into the country with its attendant consequences revealing in the form of widespread hunger, diseases and unemployment consequently, the call. Nigerians across divides have expressed pain over, development ensuing in the country moreso that foodstuffs are fast becoming unaffordable, and nearly inaccessible.
The Sultan who, on behalf of traditional and religious leaders in the North called on government to wade into the matter with a view to provide enduring solution, stated that they have been calming the general public, including the unemployed youth, in order to prevent any form of uprising against political leaders currently in power. " It is getting to a level that traditional leaders could no longer pacify the people from revolting against government and political leaders that supposed to find solutions to their lingering socioeconomic plights " - he said.
Earlier, protests had taken place in Niger, Kano and other States in the country due largely to high cost of foodstuffs. It is feared that if nothing is done about this, and urgently so, the situation may degenerate to an uncontrollable level - as citizens are both hungry and angry, like the Sultan remarked.
Ideal Reporters has gathered that distribution of foodstuffs as suggested by Federal Government in the form of palliative no longer appeal to citizens, keeping in mind previous cases where little or no impact was felt.
Drastic fall in price of food commodity and transportation, including cost of fuel, cooking gas, electricity tariff, as well as access to affordable healthcare delivery system and education would be appreciated, restore confidence of government in the minds of most Nigerians.
